Adinkrasua

Adinkrasua, which means “learn Adinkra” in Twi, creates educational apps for learning about West African culture and design. We are a worldwide team of product managers, designers and developers from Accra and Los Angeles. Adinkra symbols featured in the Adinkrasua app reflect the way of life, worldview, cultural identity, and aesthetic values of the Akan people of Ghana. These ideographic and pictographic images are incorporated in arts such as textiles, metal casting, ceramics, and woodcarving. They are printed or embroidered on cloths worn at events such as funerals, child namings or meetings with traditional leaders, as well as integrated into furniture and architecture. For the Akan, full personhood is achieved through contribution to family and community, and integration with the spiritual realm.
